Elements and Principles of Art

This first image shows color because of the reflected light. Color is a given name that describes how we see reflected light. The three properties of color are hue, value, and intensity. In this image, the pens show intensity of color by being bright.

The second image I shows texture, in this image you can see that if you were to touch it you would be able to feel the ruffles. Texture is how something feels when it is touched.

In my third image, I chose a picture of the ocean to show movement. This photo shows the waves moving towards shore. Rhythm and movement work together to create a visual of music.

In the fourth image, I chose this photo to represent space. Space is the feeling of depth that can be empty or filled with objects. I think this image goes well with space because it shows depth. With the dock up close and the mountains far away, you can see the depth of the image.

For my fifth and final image I chose a picture that represents contrast. Contrast is the differences in value, colors, texture, and shapes that create excitement and add interest. In this picture there is color contrast between the pink flowers and the green leaves.

Extension Activity: One activity I could do to show rhythm would be during a science class. I could have students draw or paint what they think a heart beat looks like. The heartbeat would show both rhythm and movement. After they create their own heart beat they could compare with others to see how everyone created their own unique rhythm.
